It All Points to Jesus

Day 15 · January 15

A devotional for today

Today’s readings

Old Testament

Jacob secretly leaves Laban, faces pursuit, and then prepares to meet Esau with fear and prayer. He cannot manage the future by skill alone; he must ask God to deliver him according to covenant mercy.

New Testament

Jesus warns disciples not to fear people more than God, promises rest to the weary, and answers John the Baptist’s questions with works that reveal the kingdom. Opposition is real, but so is Christ’s welcome.

Psalm

Psalm 13 gives voice to the ache of waiting: “How long?” Yet lament ends in trust, because God’s steadfast love is stronger

than present silence.

Proverb

Wisdom brings long life, honor, peace, and delight. Its treasure is not shallow success but a rich, God-shaped life.

Discover

Jesus is the greater Jacob who meets our fear with peace and the greater answer to every “How long?” In him, the weary truly find rest.

Reflect

Faith does not deny fear; it carries fear into prayer. When the future feels threatening, God invites honest dependence rather than frantic control.

Fellowship

What stands out in Jacob’s prayer before meeting Esau?

Why is Jesus’ command not to fear central to discipleship?

How does Psalm 13 teach healthy lament?

What kind of “rest” is Jesus offering?

Prayer

Compassionate Savior, I bring you my fears and unanswered questions. Teach me to rest in your love and trust your deliverance.

Live

When anxiety rises today, pause and pray before planning your next response.
