Day 156 · June 5
A devotional for today
Today’s readings
- Old Testament: 2 SAMUEL 23:24-24:25
- New Testament: ACTS 3:1-26
- Psalm: PSALM 123:1-4
- Proverb: PROVERBS 16:21-23
Old Testament
David’s final warriors are named, then his sinful census brings judgment. At the threshing floor, sacrifice stops the plague - an unmistakable reminder that sin is costly and atonement requires a substitute.
New Testament
Peter heals a man unable to walk, but refuses the glory. He points everyone to Jesus - the Author of life whom God raised from the dead.
Psalm
We lift our eyes to the Lord and wait for His mercy.
Proverb
Wise speech can be sweet and healing; words reveal what is in the heart.
Discover
The sacrifice that stopped judgment in David’s day points toward Christ, while Acts shows that healing and forgiveness are proclaimed in His name.
Reflect
When God works through me, do I point attention toward Jesus or toward myself?
Fellowship
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, keep my eyes on You and shape my life by Your Word. Holy Spirit, give me grace to trust, obey, and follow You today. Amen.
Live
Give Jesus the credit for every good thing He does through you. Lord Jesus, help me not only to know Your Word but to live it. Transform my heart so that my life reflects You more each day.
