Discover
Centuries before Bethlehem, a pagan prophet hired to curse Israel could only bless instead: "A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel" (Numbers 24:17). Then, almost immediately, the nation Balaam could not curse began destroying itself through sin. Blessing from the outside was never enough — Israel needed changed hearts. In Luke 2, the Star arrives as a baby in a manger. Heaven announces to shepherds: "There is born to you today, in David's city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:11). Old Simeon holds the child and sees God's salvation, "a light for revelation to the nations" (Luke 2:32) — yet even here, the shadow of the cross falls: a sword will pierce Mary's soul. The King came in humility to rescue sinners and transform hearts from within. It ALL points to Jesus.
Reflect
Balaam saw the Star from far away, but the shepherds knelt beside the manger. Am I content to admire Jesus from a distance, or will I draw near to Him as my personal Savior and Lord today?
Fellowship
Talk with someone about this: What does it mean to you personally that God promised the Star centuries before Jesus arrived?
Prayer
Father, thank You for keeping Your promises and sending Jesus, the Star out of Jacob. Guard my heart from compromise and help me follow You faithfully. Lord Jesus, help me not only to know Your Word but to live it. Transform my heart so that my life reflects You more each day. Amen.
Live
Follow the Star to the Savior. Keep your attention fixed entirely on Jesus today.
